Minister of Education gives update on reopening of Universities

 

Students in Nigerian universities might be resuming very soon as after many months of staying at home as due to the covid-19 pandemic,as the minister for education "Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba" has disclosed that tertiary institutions in the country would resume very soon.

According to the minister,he had revealed that the federal government was also working and making moves in order to bring a solution and end to the ongoing strike by the ASUU commission before schools re open, as he added that universities in the country would re open for activities very soon.

The education minister had disclosed this during a programme which was aired on NTA television station on Saturday August 22nd .

He had also said that vice-chancellors of various universities have been clamouring for those in exit classes to resume in earnest as private schools have also requested to be allowed to resume for classes and activities.

Recall that tertiary institutions in the country were closed down in March due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country in March.

Nwajiuba the education minister, had noted that many people want the federal government to resolve the ongoing ASUU strike before reopening. These people believe some public schools which are not ASUU-prone want to take advantage of the strike to move ahead.

The education minister said if this is allowed, it would destroy public schools.

He had added that ahead of the reopening of universities in the country,the (NUC) Commission would would have to do an appraisal of the state of tertiary institutions.

The minister had stated"“Tertiary institutions across the country will open very soon.

“Private universities have written us, requesting that they are allowed to reopen ahead of public institutions. Vice-chancellors have also requested that we allow them to reopen for their students in exit classes," he said.
